I’ve been soul crushingly busy these past few weeks with work and more work and then some other extra work on top of that. While I have had no time to drop any new process posts or recommendations I have felt like a bit of a magnet for awesome comic related goodness lately. Here’s a random selection of things and places you should check out. I post a lot of these little things I find on twitter so if you’d like to get more updates on what I’m up to go ahead and follow me.
The Ruined Cast
First off I happened upon Dash Shaw’s latest project last night. He’s doing a full length animated featured called “The Ruined Cast” that looks to be absolutely stunning. I watched this at least ten times last night. Do yourself a favor and wear some headphones.
Check out this article on the project from Indie Wire as well as the process blog. It just doesn’t get any better than this.

Center for Cartoon Studies
If any of you are looking to get an MFA in comics this is place to go. Past visiting faculty have included Alison Bechdel, Ed Brubaker, Ivan Brunetti, James Kochalka, Jason Lutes, Scott McCloud, Seth, Art Spiegelman, Craig Thompson, and Chris Ware.
Gesture Drawing Practice Tool
This is an online app from pixelovely for gestural figure drawing. You have the option to pick human or animal, nude or clothed and the time you want each slide to appear. All you have to do is practice! Super awesome for people like me who have no time (or access) to get to an actual live figure drawing session.
Fantastic Butterflies
As I already mentioned I’ve been busy on an unhealthy scale lately. In need of a break I walked to local comic shop in search of something distracting, joyful, and fun. True to form James Kochalka didn’t disappoint. Fantastic Butterflies is a very quick read that will leave you speechless, happy, and in a strange state of peace. I guess that what’s you happens when you mix cancer, dance parties, robots, exploded testicles, time machines, depressed dogs, and fantastic butterflies together.
Best impulse buy ever.
If you like Kochalka you can check out more of his work at American Elf where he updates very frequently and also contact him on his forum where he has proven to be an all around awesome guy.
